It is the MN State Fair time again
Starting tomorrow is the “Great Minnesota Get-Together” and with it a massive amount of traffic to our little neck of the woods. This can be a deterrent for some, though if you know the way… life is so much easier 🙂
The best way to get to us during the State Fair is by taking either if you’re coming from the north (Hwy 36) take Hamline Ave. to Como or Lexington Ave. to Como if you’re coming from the south (I94). Also, for any clients during this time… if you’re running a little behind because of fair traffic… don’t sweat it, instead embrace the mini-pause and maybe notice something you might otherwise have missed, knowing that it will all be OK.
We will be closed Friday, August 28th (this is more because we are moving into a new house…. yaaaa), and we will also be closed the last day of the fair, Labor Day which is Monday, September 7th because last year that was the craziest day of the fair and don’t want to deal with the traffic or insanity.
State Fairs are known for their crazy foods… and you’re pressured to try everything. It’s kind of turned into a joke in many ways. For example, the other day I was listening to a local radio station about a competition they have to see if one of the people in the radio crew could eat 9,000 calories in one day (PS… that’s a LOT of calories for the average person). So, what are some ways to help stay a little healthier during this time?
The first is by utilizing an Ayurvedic remedy called Triphala. Triphala helps move out undigested food (ama) and helps to regulate the digestive system. It’s balancing for almost all people. We do carry Triphala in the wellness branch of the company, and it is also available through the Virtual Dispensary.
Another tip is to remember to stay hydrated, but one thing to remember… do not chug a bunch of water and then eat food. Downing a bunch of water before eating food dampens your digestive fire and makes it VERY hard for your body to process the food that you are about to eat. Instead, sip on the water throughout the time and while you eat. Room temperature water is best, and if your digestion is slow, warm or hot water can help. Also, the complex homeopathic remedy Rehydration by GoEnergetix is really nice for helping to remind your body how to correctly utilize water. This is also available in the wellness branch, but not available through the virtual dispensary.
The next time isn’t so much about how to better digest food, but instead a nicer way of having a more bug free experience without creating a toxic load on your system, which indirectly can interfere with digestion. Neem oil, through various clinic studies, has been shown to be more effective than Deet. Neem also helps to pull excess heat from the body and is great on those hot summer days and is also beneficial for those with acne (so, you don’t have to worry about it clogging your pores).
The last tip is about sunscreen. In the last 30 years or so we’ve been hounded that the sun is harmful and we must protect ourselves with sunscreen. New studies have been coming out showing that many of the sunscreens on the market actually increase the risk of getting skin cancers as it actually traps the harmful UV rays at the surface of the skin. A very nice alternative for this Astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a very strong (super) anti-oxidant and is one of the few that is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and also helps boost eye health. The other nice thing with Astaxanthin is that as it builds up in the body it helps with sun over exposure, and is very effective from what I have been told by people with very sun sensitive skin. We carry the Deva brand of Astaxanthin in the clinic, and it is also available in the virtual dispensary. The Deva brand is vegan and non-synthetic.
We are very well aware that traffic during the State Fair can be a huge deterrent for many, so we are going to do our best to entice you to come here anyways 🙂 We are a small business… and every day counts for us.
